Cuarón's confident vision of the Potter universe pairs Rowling's themes with those he's explored in his other work to change the entire tone of the film without allowing it to feel disconnected from Columbus's entries. Warner has extracted everything that made them really cool for everyone to have. This 48-page picture book provides little on the creating, but more than enough of the creatures featured in the series. They really are great little documentaries, but I think that fans are going to be the only ones willing to fork over the dough to get their hands on them. Indeed, just one look at the film's cinematography says volumes about Cuarón's approach -- the rich colors of the first two Potter films may have been replaced with a monochromatic chill, but it feels like a natural progression that continues to subtly depict Harry's mounting unease with the world around him.

Had I known that the Harry Potter series was going to end up here, in a dark and challenging world where life is not all magic spells and problems dispensed with a wave of a wand, I'd have probably gotten on board and read the books when they were coming out like everyone else.

Unlike a Spielberg, who still manages to infuse even his most commercial projects with his own distinct sensibility, much of Sorcerer's Stone feels like it could have been made by anyone. As a huge Potter fan, the iconic pieces are just so exciting. You can also stream the movies via an internet connection. There were top notch visuals, performances and a great script that captured the good elements of the book. But the Dementors have a strange effect on Harry that calls their true motivations into question. Helena Bonham Carter doing an impression of Emma Watson when Hermione has disguised herself as Bellatrix, is also one of my favorite bits of acting in these movies. If you take the time to watch any extras in this set, make it these.
With this installment, the 'Potter' franchise is diving deeper and deeper into darker territory, which is not at all kid friendly. As it turned out, Columbus certainly delivered on at least one of those counts. She wanted the principal cast to be played by British actors, but allowed Irish actors, unless the role required otherwise. Even after my second viewing of the film, I still find myself confused as to why Harry and Dumbledore know they need to go to that cave. These films have proven to be very popular and, in less than a decade, the film series has become the highest-grossing motion picture series in history, surpassing the world-famous. The climax of the film has an air of incompleteness to it.

Another noticeable difference is that the letters of the logo float around haphazardly. Watch all the narrative threads collide in one epic battle! Harry Potter is more than everyone's favorite boy wizard -- he's a cultural phenomenon of unmatched proportions.

For every tense moment where Harry fights a dragon or a swarm of underwater creatures, there's a counter-moment with comical glimpses of image-shifting badges, colorful smoke trails, and slapstick consequences to the misuse of magic. Rowling's Harry Potter series, everything changes as Harry, Ron and Hermione leave childhood forever and take on challenges greater than anything they could have imagined.
